Walking Tour in Lisbon - Lisbon by foot, it is a half day tour and it is individual excursion of maximum 8 people. We will be visiting the following famous Lisbon neighborhoods: ALFAMA, BAIXA, BAIRRO ALTO, and CHIADO.
Alfama is the oldest district of Lisbon which name comes from Arabic Al-hamma, meaning "hot fountains" or "bath". This district includes following parishes such as Sao Miguel, Sao Estevao and Sao Vicente de Fora. Also this neighborhood has many important historical and architectural monuments, local bar and restaurants where you can listen to famous Fado (Portuguese romance).
Baixa is also known as Baixa Pombalina and it is very elegant district firstly constructed after earthquake in 1755. That district was placed on tentative list to become a National Heritage in 2004.
Bairro Alto is a central district of the city of Lisbon. There is no formal political authority in there, but there is huge social and historical meaning to the urban community of Lisbon. That place can be surely called the heart of urban life in Lisbon.
Chiado is a main commercial area in Lisbon with a lot of bars and cafes and among them there is well-know café "a Brasileira" which is famous by having had a Portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa. The name of Chiado district came from popular poet from Evora whose nickname "chiado" was meaning (squeak) and there a big bronze statue of the poet was placed in the Chiado Square in 1925.
We will walk through the Central Lisbon City and will be enjoying the Baroque architecture of the buildings and monuments of the main streets, the churches with Gothic styles of that great and historical city. These are main districts of Lisbon City to be visited on this tour.
